Perlico, now the leading alternative provider of telecoms, broadband and related services to Irish consumers, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Vodafone Ireland, today welcomed the publishing of the Department of Communications’ Next Generation Broadband Strategy and will now extend its own Broadband Freedom Bundle offer until the end of July in support.
The strategy aims for universal access to broadband in Ireland by early 2010 and an increase in connection speeds so as to equal those of comparable regions in the EU by 2012. Although the number of new broadband subscribers in Ireland is currently growing at one of the fastest rates in the EU, many rural areas remain isolated while regions that have broadband availability are forced to pay high tariffs for comparatively slow speeds.
Perlico’s Commercial Director, Paul Woods, commented: “While Ireland has witnessed very significant growth in broadband penetration over the last twelve months, our industry has a responsibility to help bridge the digital divide while also increasing the quality and speed of broadband for existing customers. The Government’s Next Generation broadband strategy coupled with ComReg’s work in this area is encouraging”.
He added “Over 200,000 people now use Perlico and we expect this number to rise further as a result of the improvement of Ireland’s broadband networks outlined in this strategy. More people will have the opportunity to benefit from the huge savings we provide and experience our award-winning customer service.”
